Eclipse

The moon revolved quietly, inexorably

Slowly covering the sun

Forcing its blazing disk into a crescent

A predetermined battle of light and dark

My eyes shielded I watched with delight, full of suspense

The crescent thinned and the fire diminished

As the moon, moving quickly now

Devoured the midday sun

Turning the air cold

And dimming the world to dusk

The last spark of fire went out

Heavenly bodies aligned

Uncovering my eyes, I gasped

The sun was eclipsed by the moon

And my heart burst

A midnight sky held a brilliant white circle

Radiant light and solar flares blazed

As filaments of fire surrounded an enigmatic moon

Powerful and staggeringly visible

Soaring in the dark toward newly revealed stars

I bathed in the light of totality

Its majesty and splendor sweeping through me

My body was one with the earth, moon, and sun

Part of a vast and infinite cosmos

Tiny yet valuable, humbled and grateful

The moment was fleeting and precious

A mere breath amid colossal celestial movements

The sated moon continued along her path

Totality ending in an intense flash of brilliance

As sun burst forth from shadow

The crescent reversed and light filled the sky

Concealing the stars and warming the world

I am now on the other side, illuminated in so many ways

Clutching at the memory and the feeling

Of my brief moment in eternity
